Introduction

Way of the Five is set in mythical ancient China and blends cartoony imagery with an esoteric backdrop. Inquisitive adventurers can explore the glistening frost covered region north of the great wall as well as the misty steppes south of the Yangtze River. Our story happens in this fantastic world, the mysterious orient.

According to legend, Pan Gu created the world by separating the heaven and earth from the chaos. When he died his body and limbs turned into five big mountains, his blood formed the roaring waters and his soul was split asunder, becoming cute and intelligent critters. By inheriting Pan Gu's spirit they gained special abilities; some are born with great strength and others are talented in the use of magic. These critters have been friends of man since remote antiquity and have cooperated together in the face of hardship and natural disasters.


Eons have pasted since that peaceful era; humanity has become prosperous but the critters, accustomed to a more natural life style, abandoned human society in lieu of the uninhabited mountains and desolate swamps. As mankind longed for their companionship, they came to realize the value of their lost critter friends. Those lucky enough to maintain a good relationship with their critters did their upmost to protect and keep them. In the span of only several generations, critter keeping became as much of a practice in idolization as it was a secret art form, and subsequently coalesced into several distinct branches. In order to further develop their art, the disciples of these arcane factions set out in search of these rare and worshipped critters; players of Way of the Five take on such a role.

The main schools in Way of the Five are: Buddhist, Empyreal, Abyssal, Taoist, and Luminary. Coming from different regions and backgrounds, each school has developed a unique use of magic and style of fighting. Taoists are master swordsman and are schooled in the occult. The Empyreal are adept healers; restoring health and curing injured companions is their specialty. Rumors report that high level Empyreals are even capable of resurrection. The eternal feud between the Abyssal and Buddhist factions is a puzzle to all but those involved. Some say that it stems from the contradictory nature of their uses of magic; the Abyssals focus on necromancy and destructive magic while the Buddhists use their powers for defense and longevity. The Luminaries are natural hunters. Their archery skills far surpass any other known marksman. Within each faction, disciples can choose to specialize in one of two occupations. As each occupation is unique, beginning disciples are encouraged to take the time to research the advantages and disadvantages of each choice.

In the quest for critters, disciples will travel across many a foreign land and be prone to unpredictable perils. Through all kinds of hardship, disciples discover that teamwork is the key to success. Adventuring disciples collect various critters utilizing their critter keeping background to employ them in combat. However, disobedient or untrained critters can sometimes behave badly and will be difficult to summon for battle. Therefore, a loyal critter is a most valued commodity to a beginning disciple.  

Way of the Five is an MMORPG that aims to create a fun, friendly atmosphere and advocates players to build strong and interdependent relationships with other players within the game world, concentrating on communication and interaction between each other. This fact is emphasized by the individualized manner with which players can build their characters and work together in teams; each player can contribute their strengths to aid their companions' weaknesses. Additionally, the turn-based combat system also yields more time for chatting and strategizing. Way of the Five will continuously create more and more interesting quests, which will keep the adventure fresh and full of passion.
